Sonata Colours
for piano
6 short movements based on Goethe’s Theory of Colours
- I. Yellow – A glow at once seems to breathe towards us.
- II. Blue – A stimulating negation.
- III. Green – If the two elementary colors [blue and yellow] are mixed in perfect equality so that neither predominates.
- IV. Red-Yellow – It represents the hue of the intenser glow of fire, and the milder radiance of the setting sun.
- V. Blue-Red – A still impatient progress.
- VI. Red – It conveys an impression of gravity and dignity.
Imitating Nature/God
- Piano – Imitating thunder and lightning.
- Cello – Imitating the movement of the clouds.
- Radio – Station static to represent rain.
- Clarinet – Imitating bird sounds after the storm subsides.
